Letters to Luke: Patience

Dear Luke,

This week, I want to talk to you about patience. Patience means staying calm when you have to wait, not getting upset when things take time, and not giving up when something is hard. It’s choosing to slow down, breathe, and keep trying even when you feel frustrated.

BIG IDEA: Patience means staying calm, not giving up, and trusting God while you wait or work through something hard. ✨

When I was young, I had to learn how to write in cursive. It was really difficult at first. My letters looked messy, the loops were crooked, and it felt like everyone else understood it except me. There were times when I wanted to quit because it seemed like I would never get it right. But I kept practicing. I traced the letters, wrote them again and again, and didn’t give up. Little by little, my writing improved. Something that felt impossible at first became something I could do well. Patience—not being perfect—helped me get there.

As an adult, patience has helped me a lot—in my marriage, in the Marine Corps, and as a teacher. Staying calm, waiting without getting angry, and handling tough situations slowly and wisely made a huge difference in my life.

Patience is important because it makes you stronger inside. It helps you handle challenges, understand others, and trust that good things take time. The Bible says in Psalm 37:7: “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” God uses slow moments to help us grow.

Luke, as you grow, try to practice patience every day. Whether you’re learning something new, waiting your turn, or trying again after a mistake, being patient will help you become a wise and steady young man.

Here are some steps you can take to practice patience this week:

  1. Take deep breaths when you feel frustrated or impatient.
  2. Wait your turn without complaining or rushing.
  3. Keep trying, even when something feels hard or takes a long time to learn.
  4. Trust God that He is working in the waiting and helping you grow.

My prayer for you this week:

Lord, help Luke grow in patience. Teach him to stay calm when things take time, to trust You in hard moments, and to keep going even when he feels frustrated. Amen.

Luke, I’m so proud to be your godfather.

With love,
Uncle Juan
