Letters to Luke: Faithfulness

Dear Luke,

Faithfulness means being steady, dependable, and trustworthy. It means showing up, keeping your word, and doing what’s right even when it’s hard or when no one is paying attention. Faithfulness looks like finishing what you start, sticking to your commitments, and being the kind of person others can always count on.

BIG IDEA: Faithfulness means being dependable, keeping your promises, and doing what’s right even when it’s hard. ✨

When I was a kid, I learned about faithfulness as an altar boy at my church. I had to serve the priest during Mass, and I took that responsibility seriously. I always kept my appointments, and I walked to the church no matter what the weather was like—rain, cold, or heat. Even when I felt tired or wanted to stay home, I showed up because I knew it mattered.

As an adult, faithfulness has continued to guide my life. I served my country faithfully in the Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge. And over the years, I’ve tried to be a faithful husband and friend—someone people can trust and depend on through good times and hard times.

The Bible gives us beautiful examples of faithfulness. One of them is Daniel, who prayed to God every day even when it put his life at risk. Another example is Ruth, who stayed loyal to Naomi and followed her to a new land, saying, “Where you go, I will go.” And of course, Jesus shows perfect faithfulness—He never gave up on the mission God gave Him, and He never gives up on us. The Bible tells us that God Himself is faithful, meaning He always keeps His promises and never leaves us.

Luke, here are some simple ways you can grow in faithfulness:

Keep your promises, even the small ones.

Show up on time for school, practice, or chores.

Do your best on homework and finish what you start.

Be a loyal friend who stands by others.
These habits will help you grow into a young man others know they can trust.

My prayer for you, Luke, is that God will help you become a faithful young man—steady, strong, and dependable. I pray you will follow through on your commitments, love others with loyalty, and walk closely with God every day. May your life reflect God’s own faithfulness in everything you do.

With love,
Your Godfather,
Juan
