This series on spiritual practices builds on Whispers of Hope. In that little booklet, I shared how God met me in the valley and carried me through seasons of pain, loss, and uncertainty. Those pages were about discovering His presence even when life felt heavy—but now, I want to take a step further and invite you to walk alongside me.
As I reflect on those experiences, I realize that knowing God’s love is only the beginning. I long not just to understand His love, but to live it—and that living unfolds gradually, in the rhythms of everyday life. Moments of faith may reveal His love in a flash, but learning to walk consistently with Him shapes a lifetime of transformation.
That’s why, in this study, we’ll explore spiritual practices that help us cultivate a closer walk with God. We’ll look at what the Bible says about these practices, the benefits they bring, practical steps for incorporating them into our lives, and tools and resources to guide us along the journey.
Here are the practices we’ll be exploring together, with a glimpse at how each can gently draw us closer to God:
Prayer and the Word
Spending time in prayer and reading Scripture grounds my day. It’s a place to pour out my heart, listen for God’s voice, and let His truth shape my thoughts, choices, and actions.
Community
Being part of a faith community reminds me I’m never alone. Shared wisdom, encouragement, and accountability help me grow and stay rooted in God’s love.
Service
Serving others turns my attention outward and opens my heart to God’s love flowing through me. Even small acts can have a meaningful impact and deepen my sense of purpose.
Honoring Our Bodies
Caring for my body through rest, nourishment, and movement is more than health—it’s stewardship. When I honor my body, I stay present for God, for others, and for the life He’s called me to live.
Practicing Simplicity
Simplifying my surroundings, schedule, and mind creates space for what truly matters. Letting go of clutter—physical, mental, and emotional—invites peace and a greater awareness of God’s presence.
Not a Manual, But a Journey
This series on spiritual practices is not a how-to guide, nor is it meant to cover every discipline. Many incredible authors—like Richard Foster, Dallas Willard, John Piper, and Henri Nouwen—have written beautifully on these topics. My hope is to offer a glimpse into my own journey—the challenges, small victories, and moments of grace that remind me God is patient and faithful, even when I fall short.
Still Learning
I haven’t mastered this. Some days my mind drifts during prayer or while reading Scripture. There are times I serve with joy, and other times out of habit, only later realizing my heart wasn’t fully engaged. And community? Learning to open up and trust others is still a work in progress.
But here’s the truth: God isn’t keeping score; He delights in my presence. Every effort to draw near—every whispered prayer, every moment in His Word, every act of service, every choice to honor the body He gave me, and every step toward simplicity—shapes me into who He wants me to be.
Moving Forward Together
I’d love for you to join me on this journey—turning simple spiritual practices into habits that shape our hearts and draw us closer to God. Within the following pages, we’ll explore how these rhythms can become more than tasks on a checklist; they can be life-giving patterns that sustain us, deepen our faith, and reveal God’s presence every day. I hope this encourages you to take one small step today, knowing that even tiny habits can grow into lasting transformation.
