“Whom have I in heaven but You?And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”—Psalm 73:25–26
Today, as I was listening to John Piper, he reflected on Psalm 73:25–26. These verses immediately resonated with my heart. Deep down, they express the cry of my soul. They set before me a lofty spiritual vision—one that, in honesty, I do not yet fully attain.
And yet, this is where I long to be. With that in mind, here are three themes from this passage that stood out to me:
God is our greatest desire.
Nothing in heaven or on earth compares to Him. True satisfaction is not found in possessions, success, or even people—but in the presence of God Himself.
Human strength is limited.
Our bodies and hearts will grow weak. We are finite, fragile, and in constant need of grace.
God is our lasting strength and inheritance.
While everything else may fail, God never does. He remains our portion, our support, and our eternal reward.
North Star
When everything else fades, God remains my greatest treasure and my surest strength.
Reflection Questions
What am I most tempted to desire or depend on more than God right now?
In what areas of my life do I feel my weakness most deeply, and how can I intentionally lean on God there?
How would my daily priorities change if I truly believed that God is my greatest and eternal inheritance?
Closing Prayer
Lord, You are my portion and my strength. Teach my heart to desire You above all else. When I am weak, remind me that You are enough, and when I am distracted, gently draw me back to Yourself. May my life increasingly reflect that You are my greatest treasure. Amen.
