Dear Luke,
Today I want to talk with you about something everyone feels at times—fear.
Fear shows up when we feel unsafe, unsure, or worried about what might happen next. It can be fear of failing, fear of being embarrassed, fear of being alone, or fear of the unknown. Feeling afraid doesn’t mean you’re weak—it means you’re human. What matters most is how you respond to fear.
What It Looks Like
Dealing with fear means admitting you’re afraid, staying calm, and choosing to move forward instead of letting fear stop you. It means trusting God even when your heart is beating fast and you don’t feel brave yet.
A Story From When I Was Your Age
When I was your age, there were moments when fear held me back from speaking up or trying something new. I remember being nervous before big games and important moments, worried about making mistakes. Over time, I learned that courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s choosing to act even when fear is present.
A Bible Example
The Bible is full of people who felt fear. One of them was David. Before he faced Goliath, David could have been terrified, but he chose to trust God instead of focusing on his fear. David remembered how God had helped him before, and that gave him courage. God reminds us many times in Scripture, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”
✨ BIG IDEA: Courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s trusting God and taking the next step even when you’re afraid. ✨
How to Deal With Fear (F.A.I.T.H.)
Here’s an easy way to remember how to deal with fear. Think of the word F.A.I.T.H.
F — Face it. Admit what you’re afraid of.
A — Ask God for help. Pray and tell Him exactly how you feel.
I — Remember God’s promises. He is with you and will not leave you.
T — Take the next step. Do the right thing, even if it’s small.
H — Hold on to hope. Trust that God is bigger than your fear.
Before you act, ask yourself: Am I letting fear control me, or am I trusting God to lead me?
A Call to Action
Luke, here are some ways you can apply what you’ve learned throughout the week:
- Name Your Fear: When you feel afraid, say out loud what you’re scared of.
- Pray First: Ask God to help you before reacting.
- Take One Step: Do one small thing that fear is trying to stop you from doing.
- Remember the Past: Think about times God helped you before.
- Encourage Yourself: Remind yourself that God is with you, even when you feel afraid.
A Prayer You Can Pray
God, thank You for being with me when I feel afraid. Help me trust You when my heart feels nervous and unsure. Give me courage to take the next step and remind me that You are always near. Amen.
Luke, fear will come and go throughout your life, but it doesn’t have to control you. When you choose faith over fear, you grow stronger and braver each time. I’m proud of you, and I’m thankful to walk beside you as your godfather.
With love,
Uncle Juan
