Letters to Luke: Building Trust & Being Trustworthy

Dear Luke,

Today I want to share something really important that will help you in life and in your friendships—building trust and being trustworthy.Trust is when someone believes you will do what you say, keep your promises, and act with honesty. Being trustworthy means people can count on you because you do the right thing, even when no one is watching. Trust is like a bridge in relationships—once it’s strong, it can carry anything; if it’s broken, it takes time and effort to fix.

What Being Trustworthy Looks Like

Being trustworthy means telling the truth, keeping your promises, respecting other people’s feelings, and acting responsibly. A bad way to act is to lie, cheat, or let someone down. A good way is to be honest, dependable, and kind in everything you do, so others feel safe around you.

A Story From When I Was Your Age

When I played baseball at your age, the coaches could always trust me. I would show up on time for practice, give my best effort, and do the right thing on and off the field. At the end of the year, I was proud to receive an award for my dedication and reliability. That experience taught me how important it is to be someone others can count on.

A Bible Example

The Bible gives us an example in Joseph. Even when he faced hard times—being sold into slavery and falsely accused—he stayed faithful and trustworthy. People saw his integrity, and God blessed him, giving him responsibilities that changed the course of many lives. God honors those who are trustworthy and true.

✨ BIG IDEA: Building trust takes honesty, responsibility, and faithfulness. Being trustworthy means others can rely on you, and it shows God’s character through your actions.

How to Be Trustworthy (C.A.R.E.)

Here’s an easy way to remember how to be trustworthy. Think of the word C.A.R.E.

C — Choose honesty. Always tell the truth, even when it’s hard.

A — Act responsibly. Do what you say you will do.

R — Respect others. Value people’s feelings, things, and time.

E — Earn trust every day. Small, consistent actions build a strong reputation.

Before you act, ask yourself: Am I doing something today that will make people trust me more—or less?

A Prayer You Can Pray

God, help me to be honest, responsible, and faithful in everything I do. Teach me to earn the trust of others and show Your love through my actions. Help me to be someone people can always count on. Amen.

Luke, being trustworthy isn’t always easy, but it’s one of the most important ways to honor God and build strong friendships. I’m proud of the young man you’re becoming, and I’m grateful I get to walk alongside you as your godfather.

With love,

Uncle Juan
