Letters to Luke: Treating Others with Dignity

Dear Luke,

Treating others with dignity means showing every person respect and kindness because they matter to God. It means speaking kindly, listening well, and treating people the way you would want to be treated. When you treat someone with dignity, you show them that they are important, valuable, and worthy of respect—no matter what they look like, where they come from, or what they can do.

BIG IDEA: Treating others with dignity means showing respect, kindness, and love to everyone because they matter to God. ✨

When I was a child, I treated all my friends with respect, no matter their color or background. We played together, laughed together, and cared for one another. It didn’t matter what we looked like or how different we were—we were friends, and we treated each other kindly.

As an adult, I still try to live this way. I go out of my way to make others feel seen, welcomed, and valued. Whether I’m at church, in my neighborhood, or around new people, I want everyone to feel like they matter.

The Bible teaches us a lot about treating others with dignity. Jesus treated everyone with love—rich or poor, healthy or sick, young or old. He cared for people others ignored. He touched the untouchable, ate with the lonely, and spoke kindly to the hurting. The Bible also says that every person is made in the image of God. That means every single person is important and deserves respect.

Luke, here are some ways you can treat others with dignity as you grow:

Use kind words, even when you’re upset.

Listen when someone is talking.

Include kids who are left out or alone.

Be polite to adults and respectful to your teachers.

Stand up for someone who is being teased or bullied.

Don’t gossip. Respect others when they are not present.

Small actions like these can make a huge difference.

My prayer for you, Luke, is that you will always see people the way God sees them—with love, kindness, and respect. I pray you will be a young man who treats everyone with dignity and makes the world around you a better, kinder place.

With love,

Your Godfather,

Juan
