Letters to Luke: How to Forgive

Dear Luke,

Forgiveness means letting go of anger when someone hurts you. It doesn’t mean saying that what they did was okay. It just means you choose not to stay upset forever. Forgiveness looks like calming down, choosing kindness, and deciding not to get even when someone has done you wrong.

BIG IDEA: Forgiveness means letting go of anger, choosing kindness, and deciding not to hold a grudge even when someone hurts you. ✨

When I was a kid, I had to forgive my sisters a lot. We argued like all brothers and sisters do, and sometimes they hurt my feelings. But we always forgave each other so we could stay close.

As an adult, I had to forgive the man who stole my bicycle from my garage. I was really angry at first, but eventually I knew that holding on to that anger would only make me miserable. Forgiving him helped my heart feel lighter again.

The Bible teaches us a lot about forgiveness. Joseph forgave his brothers even though they treated him terribly. Jesus told His followers to forgive again and again, not just once. And Jesus Himself forgave the people who hurt Him. God forgives us every day, and He wants us to forgive others too.

Luke, here are some simple ways to practice forgiveness:

Take a deep breath and calm down before you react.

Talk to God and tell Him how you feel.

Remember that everyone makes mistakes, even you.

Choose not to stay angry, even if it takes time.

Pray for the person who hurt you.

These steps can help your heart stay peaceful and strong.

My prayer for you, Luke, is that God will help you forgive others quickly and kindly. I pray He gives you a soft heart, a peaceful mind, and the courage to let go of hurt. May you always choose forgiveness, just like Jesus does with us.

With love,

Your Godfather,

Juan
