Dear Luke,
Teachability means having a heart that is willing to learn, listen, and grow. It’s being open to advice, correction, and new ideas—even when they challenge you. Someone who is teachable doesn’t act like they know everything. Instead, they ask questions, pay attention, and look for ways to get better. Teachability looks like listening carefully, trying again after mistakes, and being humble enough to learn from anyone.
✨ BIG IDEA: Teachability means being willing to listen, learn, and grow, even when it’s hard or you make mistakes. ✨
When I was a child, I loved learning new things. Whether I was listening to my coaches, paying attention to my parents, or learning from my teachers, I enjoyed discovering how to do things better. I knew that the more I listened, the more I grew.
As an adult, that desire to learn stayed with me. I continued my education and eventually earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Even now, I still love learning—whether through reading, asking questions, or listening to the wisdom of others.
The Bible shows us many examples of teachability. One is King Solomon, who asked God for wisdom instead of riches or power. Another is the disciples, who followed Jesus and let Him teach them even when they didn’t understand everything at first. And Proverbs is filled with verses that remind us that wise people listen to correction, take advice, and keep learning throughout their whole lives.
Luke, here are some ways you can grow in teachability:
Listen closely when someone teaches or corrects you.
Ask questions when you don’t understand something.
Be willing to try again when you make a mistake.
Learn from people who are older, wiser, or more experienced.
When you stay teachable, you can grow into the strong and wise young man God wants you to be.
My prayer for you, Luke, is that God will give you a humble heart that loves to learn. I pray you’ll always be open to guidance, willing to grow, and eager to discover new things. May the Lord surround you with people who teach you well, and may He shape you into a young man full of wisdom.
With love,
Your Godfather,
Juan
