Letters to Luke: Perseverance

Dear Luke,

This week, I want to talk to you about perseverance. Perseverance means sticking with something and not giving up, even when it’s super hard, like learning to ride a bike or finishing a tough video game level. It’s about trying your best, learning from mistakes, and keeping going until you reach your goal—even if you stumble along the way.

BIG IDEA: Perseverance means not giving up and trusting God to help you keep going when things get hard. ✨

When I was learning to play soccer, I wasn’t very good at first. I struggled with skills, made mistakes, and sometimes felt frustrated. But I kept practicing, listening to advice, and working hard. Over time, I improved and eventually became the most valuable player on my high school soccer team. Perseverance taught me that learning and growing takes effort, and that success comes from sticking with it, even when it’s tough.

The Bible gives us many examples of perseverance. One of my favorites is Joseph, who faced many hardships—being sold by his brothers, wrongly accused, and thrown into prison. Yet he never gave up. He trusted God and kept doing what was right. In the end, God used Joseph’s perseverance to accomplish amazing things.

Luke, as you grow, you will face challenges too. Perseverance is choosing to keep going when things are hard, learning from your mistakes, and trusting God along the way. Every time you stick with something and do your best, you build strength, character, and confidence.

Here are some steps you can take this week to practice perseverance:

1. Pick one challenge you want to keep working on, like a school subject, a sport, or a personal goal.

2. Set small goals so it doesn’t feel too overwhelming.

3. Keep trying, even if you make mistakes. Remember, mistakes are part of learning.

4. Ask God for help when it feels hard, and pray for patience and strength.

My prayer for you this week:

Lord, teach Luke to persevere. Help him to keep going when things are hard, learn from his mistakes, and trust You to guide him. Give him patience, strength, and courage to finish what he starts. Amen.

I love you, Luke, and I’m proud to be your godfather.

With love,

Juan
